With college move-in coming up, we get how stressful it can be for both students and parents. Starting a new chapter is super exciting, but moving into a new place can be pretty daunting. At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we’ve been through it all and picked up plenty of tricks to make moving as smooth and hassle-free as possible. We know moving isn’t always fun, but with our tips and advice, we’re here to make it easier so you can focus on the exciting journey ahead. Whether you’re heading to a dorm, apartment, or house, we’ve got you covered with some great pointers to ensure a successful and stress-free move.

Declutter and Organize

Over the years, we tend to accumulate a lot of stuff we might not need anymore. When moving into a dorm, space is limited, so it’s essential to pare down. Go through your belongings and create three piles: donate, throw away, and keep. Once you’ve sorted everything, determine what needs to go to school with you. If you need supplies for packing, make sure to stop into our office for all of the packing supplies you may need during your move.

Check Out the New Layout

Most dorms have floor plans available on their websites. We recommend reviewing these before moving in, especially if you have larger items like a fridge. This helps ensure you don't overpack and can plan where everything will fit, making the move-in process smoother.

Create a “Day of Move” Essentials Kit

Just like when moving from one house to another, an essentials kit is key to keeping stress low and ensuring you have all the necessary items throughout the process. Include things like chargers, snacks, water, toiletries, and important documents.

Make A Plan

The key to a successful move is preparation. Creating a plan will make the day run smoothly. Set a specific time to arrive at school and start the process. Make a checklist of all the items you need and mark them off as you go. Moving can be hectic, so staying prepared and organized is crucial for a stress-free experience.

Keep the Fundamentals in Mind!

Make sure not to forget the items you use daily! Cleaning supplies, first aid kits, personal hygiene, extra storage bins, etc. These items can slip through the cracks while moving, so make sure you add these items to your checklist!

We wish you luck on your move and this school year. If you have any questions, we’re always here to help Move You Forward®!
