Remember when you first brought your elliptical home? The excitement of building a healthier lifestyle and the promise of workouts at your convenience? Now, as you prepare to move, you might feel a mix of nostalgia and dread—because let’s face it, moving a bulky elliptical isn’t exactly a workout you signed up for.
But here’s the good news: you’re not alone in this. With the right steps, a little patience, and some help, moving your elliptical doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Imagine getting it to your new place without a scratch and knowing it’s ready to help you crush your fitness goals all over again. Sound like a plan? Let’s make it happen!
What You Need
- Stretch wrap
For securing the swing handles on the elliptical.
- Duct Tape
For securing the power chord to the elliptical.
- Measuring Tape
For measuring hallways, doorways, and anywhere else to make sure the elliptical will fit while moving.
- Ratchet Straps
For securing the elliptical in place on the moving truck.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Secure the chord and swinging handles
For the swinging handles, use stretch wrap to secure them tightly against the rest of the elliptical. This ensures the machine stays compact and stable while being lifted or maneuvered. Swinging handles can easily knock into walls or doorways if left unsecured, so this step prevents unnecessary bumps and scrapes. To further protect the power cord, use duct tape to hold it securely in place against the elliptical frame. This will prevent the cord from dragging or getting caught on anything as you move.
- Measure hallways, doorways, and anywhere else the elliptical will passthrough
Use a tape measure to check the dimensions of doorways, hallways, staircases, and any other tight spots your elliptical will need to pass through. Ellipticals are often bulky and tall, so don’t just think about floor space—be mindful of overhead obstacles like light fixtures, ceiling fans, and door frames to avoid any surprise damage.
If things are looking a bit tight, don’t panic. You can often disassemble parts of the elliptical, such as the pedals or handles, to make it more manageable. Jot down all your measurements and keep them handy, so you can double-check your space as you move.
- Use proper lifting techniques
Once you have your path planned out, use proper lifting techniques to pickup the elliptical. With the help of a friend, lift with your legs and carry the elliptical out the door. You can also use forearm forklifts for extra grip and to take pressure off your hands when moving.
- Load and secure the elliptical onto the moving truck
When approaching the truck, use a loading ramp if one is available. Slowly push the dolly up the ramp with one person at the front guiding and another at the back providing stability. If a ramp isn’t an option, you’ll need at least two strong people to lift the elliptical onto the truck bed—one lifting from each side. Communication is key here: coordinate each movement to keep the machine steady.
Once inside the truck, place the elliptical upright near the wall to minimize its footprint. Use ratchet straps to secure it to the truck wall, anchoring it tightly so it doesn’t wobble or shift during transit. With the elliptical safely in place, you’re ready to hit the road!
