The nation’s leading full-service moving company continues to expand with 11 signings, eight openings and eight new franchisees in 2021 — 11 more signings or transfers planned by end of the year.
LANSING - TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, the nation’s largest franchisor in the moving industry with over 380 franchises and 3,000 trucks in operation, is planning on finishing 2021 stronger than ever. This is after entering two new states, Vermont and Rhode Island, and driving revenue through an increase of long distance moves as Americans continue to relocate amid the pandemic. Additionally, the company’s junk removal offering has seen a record-breaking year as new franchises sign on to offer the service in their local markets.
"Since remaining an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic, our franchisees are seeing the benefit of diversifying their revenue options with offering our junk removal service,” said Randy Shacka, president of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. “We are hoping to have more than 70 junk-removal trucks on the road by the end of the year to help with our mission of moving people forward with their moving and junk removal needs."
Shacka explained the “Movers Who Care®” are close to having a presence in every state, currently in 46 states, as they continue to see existing franchisees expand and reinvest back into the brand.
More Junk Removal Than Ever
The amount of people moving in 2021 is up nearly 20% nationwide compared to 2020, which was already seeing record numbers as people fled cities and relocated due to the pandemic. Moving, storage and junk-removal services were in high demand, and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK delivered, seeing double-digit growth across all revenue streams.
Rhode Island Franchisees Alan Oversmith and Joe Turbeville are a testament to the brand's strength and overall future growth. The pair have been working together for years, running TWO MEN AND A TRUCK locations in Michigan and Massachusetts. They see Rhode Island as an opportunity to further establish the brand and serve a whole new community.
"We are blazing a new trail," said Oversmith. "What happens with the brand, our reputation and the jobs we provide to the community is all on us. It's a good kind of pressure, and we're honored to have the opportunity."
Including Canada, there are currently 60 junk trucks, and this year’s job count so far has totaled 9,758.
ServiceMaster Brands Acquires TWO MEN AND A TRUCK
In August, ServiceMaster Brands (SMB) completed its acquisition of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. The moving company’s excellent franchise support services and customer relationships have proven complementary to SMB's multi-brand infrastructure and capabilities, presenting many opportunities for each brand to benefit.
Jon Nobis, CEO of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, reflected on the moving franchise’s growth and how SMB’s acquisition will take the company to new heights.
"We started as a small, local company that was simply two men and a truck, and we have much to be proud of. We have grown to an extensive franchise network with locations in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Ireland. Now, we are eager to take our brand to the next level," Nobis said. "We are confident the combination of our mission of exceeding customers' expectations with our shared commitment to innovation will propel growth for both TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and ServiceMaster Brands."
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Sees an Increase in Mini-Market Openings
First designed to build traction in smaller, underserved markets, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK launched its mini-market model with a minimum start-up cost of $100,000. The mini-market territory setup replicates its standard market model, accommodating a variety of staffing sizes and a wider range of communities.
This year, the company has sold the most mini-markets it ever has, bringing on new franchisees and expanding with existing franchisees looking to break into new markets. Mini-market franchisees are able to tap into the same support and training that traditional markets receive, but at a lower cost of entry.
“We are so excited, not only for the opportunity that this creates for our company to reach more customers with this model, but the ownership opportunity this has opened up to so many of the current TWO MEN AND A TRUCK team members,” Compliance Director Pam Batten said. “In addition, this lower investment opens up the ownership opportunity to more people.”
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK currently has available territories across the U.S. with a focus on expanding its mini-market model in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia, among other states. The company also has available standard market franchise opportunities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
Franchise opportunities for standard markets range from $179,400 to $595,000 and mini-market opportunities range from $100,000 to $222,000. Learn more, here.
