Focused on Our Community

Being a part of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in Livonia means we believe in being part of our community and providing more than just moving services. We show up, lend a helping hand, and support the organizations in our community that make a difference for others. Over the last few years, we have had the honor of partnering with MCHS Family of Services in their vision to build a community where every child and family has a safer and brighter future. 

One way we have supported MCHS Family of Services is by donating our time and trucks for multiple different projects. We have helped transport 75 children’s bicycles that were donated to give kids a Christmas to remember, and have also helped a new mother move into her very first home of her own, showing our support for an exciting new chapter for both her and her children.

We recently also participated in National Volunteer Month and were able to take our partnership a bit further and get boots on the ground at their TIPs location, supporting teenage parents. Our team had a mixture of movers, office staff, and managers on site, where we helped repaint the main living area of the facility used by the teens and their children to give them a brighter, more comfortable space to enjoy. Our team also spent time cleaning up the playground on site, resetting play structures, laying down new mulch, leveling out the ground in some areas and just overall helping to make the outdoor space safer and more welcoming for children to play and their parents to relax. 

Every year in October, MCHS Family of Services hosts their annual Light the Way Gala at Ford Field. All proceeds earned from the gala go towards supporting the multiple programs MCHS Family of Services for helping the youth and families in our community, and this year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® of Livonia had the honor of sponsoring and attending the gala. It was such a blessing connecting with other members in the community that have commonality in supporting such a wonderful cause, and also so humbling and wonderful to see and meet the people who have had their lives positively impacted by the charitable contributions made.

We were especially gratified to bring two moving team members to the gala this year who have both volunteered their time and hard work on various projects with MCHS over the years. Having Herman and DeWayne with us at the event made the evening even more meaningful, and it was a joy to witness them see firsthand how their efforts have helped serve the children, teens, and families that are a part of MCHS. Being a part of this evening lit a fire inside each of us who attended and reminded us just how powerful the time, effort, and resources we contribute can reach far beyond a single project. 

Our partnership with MCHS Family of Services has been beyond rewarding and a reminder of what good can be done in our community. We are so proud to stand alongside an organization as such that is doing such meaningful work in supporting the future of the world, and whether we are donating moving services, improving a play space, helping a family start a new chapter, or supporting an important fundraising event, we are so glad MCHS has looked to us for assistance. We are beyond grateful for the opportunities we have had with this partnership, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for both MCHS Family of Services and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® of Livonia as we continue working together to make a difference one move and one act of service at a time.

Each year, in April and May, as part of our Movers for Moms® program, we organize a collection of essential care items for women and children who are staying at First Step Shelter of Wayne. First Step is the only non-profit agency in out-Wayne County providng comprehensive services for victims of domestic and sexual violence. 

This year, we collected over 500 items with the help of our friends at Little Tots Livonia, and Team Rehabiltation. We are pleased to make Mother's Day a little brighter for the families at First Step.

We appreciate Kroger at 1905 N. Canton Center and their generouse shoppers who donated pet food and supplies for our Movers for Mutts campaign this fall. We delivered the donations to the Michigan Humane Society in Westland. The Michigan Humane Society finds homes for thousands of animals each year. All animals deserve to be cared for and loved, homeless or not.

Another great opportunity for us to give-back this year includes supporting Blessings in a Backpack. Blessings In a Backpack is a "neighbor-helping-neighbor" program that is designed to help meet the nutritional needs of children and families. Each week, volunteers distribute backpacks filled with enough non-perishable food for the weekend to "at-risk" students. The goal of the program is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and to remove barriers to academic success. We are very proud to help with the logistics of Blessings in a Backpack.    

Each year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Livonia picks up Christmas gift donations from local metro Detroit businesses. We deliver the gifts to volunteers at Operation Good Cheer. This year, 2017, OGC gathered and delivered just under 20,000 gifts thoughout Michigan. It took 34 trucking companies, 255 planes, and an army of volunteers to make Christmas happen for over 6,400 children in Michigan foster care homes.
