That said, here are some things that you can do and understand making your move as successful one for you and our movers!
1. Keep Your Driveway Clear and Safe
- Remove snow and ice from all walkways, steps, porches, and your driveway.
- Lay down salt or sand for traction to help protect movers and equipment.
- If truck access could be difficult due to snow banks or narrow, icy roads, let your movers know ahead of time.
Place mats or rugs inside entryways to catch snow and mud.
2. Protect Your Floors and Interiors
- Winter boots track in snow, slush, and salt, use floor coverings (carpet protection), in high-traffic areas and be prepared to mop hardwood floors.
- Keep towels or mats near entrances for wiping boots.
Save deep cleaning for after the move, winter weather makes spotless floors impossible during loading and unloading of the home.
3. Dress for a Safe and Comfortable Move
- Wear layers, your door may stay open for long periods, so keep warm clothes accessible.
Choose warm, waterproof boots with good traction.
- Wool socks help keep your feet warm during longer loading times.
4. Communicate With Your Moving Team
- Let your movers know about steep driveways, icy conditions, limited parking, or narrow paths.
- Confirm where the truck should park, especially with plows or snow banks in the area.
- Review your move plan ahead of time: number of movers, estimated hours, and any extra time needed for winter conditions.
5. Keep Safety First, No Shoe Removal
- Don’t ask movers to remove their shoes, it's unsafe on icy or wet surfaces and slows the move significantly.
- Ask about carpet protection if needed (not something we automatically bring). Our movers would be happy to bring and apply carpet protection.
Expect floors to get a bit wet; the crew will minimize it, but winter weather can’t be fully controlled.
