Moving With a Pet? How to Prepare for Moving Day

Moving day can be exciting for your family, but all the activity can be confusing or stressful for your pet. Open doors, unfamiliar people, boxes, and furniture being moved around can create plenty of opportunities for a curious dog or cat to get underfoot.

Whether you're moving to Arvada, Golden, or another nearby community, preparing your pet ahead of time can help make moving day safer and easier for everyone.

Prepare Your Pet Before Moving Day

A little preparation can make a big difference. Keep your pet's routine as normal as possible in the days leading up to the move, including regular meals, walks, and playtime.

It's also a good idea to pack your pet's essentials separately. Keep food, water, medications, treats, a leash, waste bags, and a favorite toy or blanket somewhere easy to reach.

Give Your Pet a Safe Place

When the movers arrive, your home will have doors opening and closing, people walking in and out, and furniture moving through hallways. This can be stressful for your pet and create a chance for them to escape.

Consider keeping your pet in a quiet, closed room away from the moving activity. A bedroom or bathroom can work well as long as your pet has food, water, and something familiar to keep them comfortable.

You could also have a friend or family member watch your pet or arrange for a pet sitter or boarding facility for the day.

Help Them Adjust to the New Home

Once you arrive, give your pet some time to get comfortable. Set up a small area with their bed, food, water, toys, and other familiar belongings before allowing them to explore the entire house.

If you're moving to Golden, taking your dog for a walk around the new neighborhood after the move can also help them begin getting comfortable with their new surroundings.

Let the Movers Handle the Heavy Lifting

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® Boulder can handle the heavy lifting involved with your household move, allowing you to focus on keeping your pet comfortable and safe. Their movers can help with furniture, boxes, and other belongings while your pet stays safely away from the activity.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® does not transport living animals in its moving trucks, so you'll want to make separate arrangements for your pet's transportation.

With a little planning, you can keep your pet safely out of the way while the movers do their job—and make the transition to your new home easier for the whole family.
