What You Need

  • Four-wheeled furniture dolly

These will help you move the hot tub across flat surfaces or even up and down stairs.

  • Moving blankets

To protect the hot tub from scratches and dents during the move.

  • 4x4 lumber boards

These can be used to help lift and position the hot tub on the dolly.

  • Lifting straps

To help lift and move the hot tub.

  • Ratchet straps

To secure the hot tub during transport, keeping it in place.

  • Moving ramp

To roll the hot tub into the moving truck or trailer.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Plan ahead

Planning is crucial for a smooth move. Start by making sure you have a clear path from the hot tub to the moving truck or trailer. This means removing any obstacles like furniture, garden tools, or debris that might be in the way. Also, measure the hot tub and the doorways, gates, or any narrow spaces you’ll need to pass through to ensure it will fit.

  2. Disconnect and drain the hot tub

Before moving the hot tub, you need to disconnect it from its power source and drain all the water. Start by turning off the power and carefully unplugging the power cord. Drain the water completely using the drain valve, making sure all water is out of the tub and pipes. Tuck the power cord away securely so it doesn’t get in the way during the move.

  3. Remove the cover

Next, remove the hot tub cover. This will make the tub lighter and easier to handle. Store the cover in a safe place where it won’t get in the way during the move. You can put it in the truck or trailer once the hot tub is loaded.

  4. Lift the hot tub onto the furniture dolly

This step requires at least four people to help. First, use the lifting straps to lift one side of the hot tub. While it’s lifted, slide two 4x4 boards underneath the tub. These boards will help distribute the weight evenly. Once the hot tub is on the boards, carefully slide the two four-wheeled dollies underneath it, making sure they are lined up properly and the hot tub is balanced.

  5. Move the hot tub to the moving truck

With the hot tub securely balanced on the dollies, slowly roll it towards the moving truck or trailer. Make sure the dollies are lined up with the moving ramp before you start moving it onto the truck. Go slowly and carefully to avoid hitting any obstacles along the way.

  6. Secure the hot tub

Once the hot tub is in the truck or trailer, use the ratchet straps to secure it in place. This will prevent the hot tub from shifting during the drive. Be sure to cover the hot tub with moving blankets to protect it from scratches and any damage during the trip. If you’re using a trailer, ratchet down the hot tub cover as well to keep it from moving around.

  7. Unload and install the hot tub

When you arrive at your new location, carefully unhook the ratchet straps and slowly roll the hot tub off the truck or trailer. Move it to its new spot and gently lower it into place. Once the hot tub is settled, reconnect the power, refill the tub with water, and you’re ready to enjoy your hot tub in its new home!

Moving a hot tub isn’t easy, but by following these steps and taking your time, you can do it safely.
