I’ve been with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®(opens in a new window) for a little over a year now and can honestly say I had never seen our guys move in weather like what we dealt with during this move.
Our Racine team was in Kenosha helping Professional Services Group(opens in a new window) consolidate a few of its offices. The day started off pretty normal, but that changed quickly. The thunder got louder, the rain started coming down harder, and then it began hailing. For about 15 to 20 minutes, ice about the size of nickels was falling on us.
It was crazy, but the crew kept finding ways to keep the move going.
Everyone was completely soaked. Their shirts, shoes, and socks were drenched, but they continued working together and getting everything where it needed to go. I was outside getting just as wet because I wanted to capture some photos and videos of what was happening.
After you get wet enough, you eventually reach the point where you cannot really get any wetter. You just accept it and keep going. At least, that is how it was for me.
While we were there, Tim, the general manager of our Racine location, spoke with Amanda Dulle-Lois, a coordinator with Professional Services Group. Amanda explained that the organization is a social services agency contracted through the county and that the move was part of consolidating its Kenosha offices.
When Tim asked what surprised her most about the move, besides the weather, she talked about how quickly the team worked.
“They were really fast at our first location, and then we had to go to a second location before we got here. They were very quick and prompt about it.”
Tim asked whether the guys were doing a good job, and Amanda said they were doing a great job.
That was good to hear, especially because this was not a simple move from one building to another. The crew had already worked at two other locations before reaching the final office, and they were doing all of it while dealing with some of the worst weather I have seen since starting here.
Tim also asked Amanda what the best part of our team having there was. Her answer really showed what matters during a business move.
“They are very accommodating. If we need to pivot or do something different, they are very willing to do that and work with us, so we appreciate that.”
Plans can change quickly during a move, especially when multiple offices and locations are involved. Being able to adjust, communicate, and continue helping the customer is just as important as moving everything quickly.
The interview was not completely serious, either. Tim asked Amanda whether she was more of a coffee or energy drink person, and she answered “coffee” almost immediately. He also asked what the go to office snack was, and apparently, they are a big Taco Bell family.
Even though the weather was rough, everyone still found ways to laugh and make the most of the day.
People say “rain or shine” all the time, but this move showed what that actually looks like. The crew was soaked, the plan had multiple stops, and the weather gave us just about everything it had. Still, the team stayed positive, worked together, and made sure Professional Services Group was taken care of.
It was definitely a move I will not forget anytime soon, and I am glad I was there to capture it.
