Over the past four decades, analysts have tracked migrations of US residence to other states.
Recently, the analysts released their study findings. In the study, the majority of Americans who move eastbound or southbound in search of less expensive housing.
In addition, 65% of moves were inbound to Vermont in the past year, making it the number one state most people moved to for the third year in a row. Two-thirds of those cited for moving to Vermont cite being closer to family, and twenty-thirds cite a lifestyle change.
For the sixth consecutive year, New Jersey has been the state with the highest number of outbound moves, with close to 65% of those happening outside the state. Vermont is not the only state to have a consistent migration pattern, as Pennsylvania also has a steady migration pattern. Retirement was the main reason for moving out of New Jersey with 27%.
There was an increase in popularity in several Southeastern states, with South Carolina making up a whopping 63% of the moves and North Carolina and Alabama sharing 60%. While the beautiful states of Arkansas and West Virginia also joined the list of top inbound states.
After New Jersey, states which saw the highest percentage of outbound moves included Illinois with 61%, and Michigan and California both with 58%.
