TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s core value, THE GRANDMA RULE®, continues to shape the brand’s actions each day

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK's Grandma Eb

Earlier this month, we celebrated the “social holiday” of National Grandparents Day,  a time to honor the wonderful grandparents in our lives.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK has always had a special place in its heart for senior citizens, and we felt the importance of National Grandparents Day not just that day, but every day. As a brand, we have made it a major priority from the start to go that extra mile for seniors with their moving needs, because we know how emotional and delicate this can be.

All around the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK network, you can see pictures paying homage to someone simply known as “Grandma Eb”, who was the mother of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Founder, Mary Ellen Sheets.

Grandma Eb played a critical role in getting the company off the ground, letting Sheets and the first iteration of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK use her back garage as an “office” as the brand built a reputation. The company would not be where it is today without her contributions, and we developed our core value, THE GRANDMA RULE®, in her honor!

THE GRANDMA RULE is simple: treat each customer we interact with the same way we would want our own grandmother to be treated. This core value has become a pillar of who we are, and all of the 430-plus TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises across the globe practice this mindset every single day.

“I love THE GRANDMA RULE! We’ve all heard of the golden rule of ‘treat others the way you wish to be treated’. By treating all our customers like our own grandma, we provide moving experiences that truly take stress out of a big transition,” said Josh Hutchins, a multi-unit franchisee with locations in Minnesota and North Dakota.

From posters like the picture in this blog to messaging and shirts, the spirit of Grandma Eb lives on within our brand, and THE GRANDMA RULE is a way for us to show customers how much care and compassion we put into every move – especially moves for seniors.

“THE GRANDMA RULE, to me, exemplifies everything we want and expect out of our employees and ourselves,” said Brian Stern, a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® multi-unit franchisee with locations in New Jersey, Maryland, and Maine. “The idea is to treat each one of our customers as if they were our grandmothers. If we do that, every customer will be treated with respect, patience, and empathy during difficult moving situations.”
