It was National Grandparents Day on Sunday, and there’s no better time to remember and honor all the wonderful grandparents in our lives who mean so much to us.
At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, there’s a special place in our hearts for seniors, and as an ode to Grandma Eb who was an instrumental figure with the company back in the early days, we now focus on what’s called THE GRANDMA RULE® as a company core value. Simply put, this means treating every customer the way we would want our own grandmas to be treated. It has been practiced and preached within TWO MEN AND A TRUCK since the very early days of our company and we strive to live this mindset daily!
“I love THE GRANDMA RULE! We’ve all heard of the golden rule of ‘treat others the way you wish to be treated’. By treating all our customers like our own grandma, we provide moving experiences that truly take stress out of a big transition,” said Josh Hutchins, a multi-unit franchisee with locations in Minnesota and North Dakota.
THE GRANDMA RULE was inspired by someone known in the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK family as “Grandma Eb”, who was company Founder Mary Ellen Sheets’ mom. In the early days of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK when it was just the original “two men” moving with their pickup truck, Grandma Eb offered the barn in her backyard as an “office” for the company to operate out of. Her contributions were critical in helping TWO MEN AND A TRUCK get started, and that’s why we continue to honor her legacy to this day!
“THE GRANDMA RULE, to me, exemplifies everything we want and expect out of our employees and ourselves,” said Brian Stern, a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® multi-unit franchisee with locations in New Jersey, Maryland, and Maine. “The idea is to treat each and every one of our customers as if they were our grandmothers. If we do that, every customer will be treated with respect, patience, and empathy during difficult moving situations.”
At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, senior moving is a big part of what we do. Nearly 52% of all moves we complete are for people over the age of 50. These moves can be incredibly emotional as customers move from a beloved place they’ve called home for years.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving teams are specifically trained on moving seniors, and our trainers stress the importance of ensuring customer communication and helping them feel at ease.
“Often times, a senior move involves downsizing from a long-term home, and it can be a complicated and emotional experience,” said Alexa Lanier, a multi-unit marketing director for multiple TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in South Florida . “Our customer service representatives and in-home consultants work with the customers to account for the destination of all items, which can involve multiple stops or storage. Our movers then take the time to make sure every item gets to where it needs to go.”
