Moving soon? Here are 4 things you might not expect on moving day that you should be prepared for

Not sure where to start when it comes to a home move? There can be many tasks to think about when preparing to move, with many that pop up as you get closer to the big day.

With that in mind, we’ve prepared a few things we’ve seen over the years that you should expect on moving day along with things that may pop up along the way. Preparation is key when it comes to moving, and we’ve compiled this list to ensure you’re off on the right foot when it comes to your move.

Don’t pack away important, essential items

Packing is a big task, and it’s easy to get on a roll and pack away literally everything – even things you might end up needing on moving day! This is why we encourage customers to create an “essentials” bag prior to moving day. This includes anything from chargers and toiletries to snacks, medications, extra clothes, and more.

The last thing you want to do when the movers arrive is re-open your packed boxes to find something you need.

Disassemble all furniture prior to moving day to save time

If you ask any of our professional moving team members their best moving advice, you’d be surprised at how many of them mention this tip. Having your beds or other furniture disassembled and taken apart prior to moving day will save you a lot of time and hassle, as it allows items to get loaded into the truck right away without any hold ups.

Make sure you keep all furniture parts together in the same bag or box (you can even tape them to the furniture piece) so you’re able to find them at your new home.

Moving is a physical activity – have snacks and hydration ready!

In the midst of all the chaos, one thing that might slip your mind is staying hydrated and properly nourished, but it is very important on moving day, especially if you’re moving during the warmer months of the year. Whether you hire professional movers or not, you’ll still be doing plenty of walking in and out of a house, up and down stairs, or in and out of a vehicle carrying belongings. This can add up after a while, and you need to keep your body in the right shape to make it through the day.

Don’t let small bumps in the road throw off your day

All the planning and preparation in the world can’t stop the universe from potentially throwing a speed bump in your plans – and that’s okay, it happens! Moving day is a process, and sometimes it can take from sun up to sun down, or even multiple days. Throughout this time, there is the chance that you’ll run into a problem, whether it’s forgetting to have packed something, having to decide on whether something should stay or go, or realizing you need to make an additional trip. Don’t let this throw off your day and just know that it’s part of the process!
