Help your child prepare for a return to the classroom with these 5 helpful back to school tips

It’s that time of year again when summer starts wrapping up and the new school year is right around the corner!

We all know getting back into a school year routine can be stressful for the whole family, and starting a new school year can be intimidating for some students.

To help ease the stress for everyone involved and to gear up for an amazing school year ahead, here are a few important tips to keep in mind.

Create a routine for the school year

The school year is a busy time for many families, so creating a routine beforehand is a great way to get everyone prepared. Once you come up with a plan, start testing out the routine a few weeks before school starts so it becomes easier to follow. Getting your kids to go to sleep a bit earlier each night and waking up a little earlier each day can also help.

Familiarize kids with their new teacher

The first day of school can be intimidating for many kids. A great way to help them feel a little less stressed is to meet their teacher and let them know of friends who will be in their class or in their school building. Many schools do orientation days to check out where their classroom is and meet their teacher. This is also a great time to get them excited about making new friends!

Include kids in shopping for school supplies and clothes

Shopping for school supplies and clothes is an exciting way to get kids to think about the school year. Allowing them to pick the items will make for a fun bonding experience and will get them excited to use their new school supplies and back to school clothes.

Get your kids excited for after-school activities

Many kids enjoy after-school activities whether it be a sport, club, or extracurricular activity. Remind your kids that those activities will be starting up again. Also remind them about new activities and if they’re interested in trying something new, it’s a great time to do so.

Pack your bookbag and lay out clothes the night before

The day before school, you and your kids should make sure everything is packed in their bags and clothes laid out for the next morning. When you have mostly everything done the night before, it allows for more time the next morning just in case the day isn’t going as planned. It’s another fun way to get the kids involved and excited to kick off the school year.
