5 important things to remember when packing for your next home move

Home Packing

There are two key areas we always highlight when detailing what will lead to a successful home move: organization and packing.

Focusing on each area as you lead up to moving day will do wonders for eliminating stress and creating a positive moving experience. When it comes to packing, it’s an especially important task, as it keeps your belongings protected during the process of moving them from one home to the next. If your belongings are labeled, packed away with professional moving equipment, and loaded safely into a vehicle, there’s a better chance your move will go on without a hitch.

We identified five essential things everyone should remember when packing to ensure moving day is a success!

Get a head start by packing room by room

Ask anyone who has completed a home move before, and they’ll tell you that last-minute packing is not what you want to find yourself doing.

That’s why it’s important to pack well in advance of moving day so you can chip away at the process to make it a little more manageable. Go room by room throughout your home to keep everything organized and give yourself flexibility if your schedule changes.

Label, label, label

If there’s anything you take away from this packing tips blog, it should be this: label your boxes!

Above all else, this will separate a normal move from a great one. Whether you hire movers to help or tackle the move yourself, labeling the boxes will let whoever is moving them know what’s inside and where they need to go, which will significantly speed up the moving process. It’s the best organizational and packing tip you can use, while helping remove some of the stress that comes with packing and moving.

Pack electronics in their original boxes

If you’re able to do so, it’s best to pack electronics in the original box they came in. Many standard moving boxes aren’t designed to fit these unique items, and their original box was created for them to be shipped. If you don’t have the original box, be sure to use plenty of bubble wrap.

Leave yourself extra time to pack the kitchen

Of all the rooms in your home, it will more than likely take the longest to pack up your kitchen due to every dish and cup needing to be individually wrapped. Give yourself a day or two to work on this and remember: always stack dishes upwards when packing.

Pack important documents in an easily accessible container

Anything from health records to passports, insurance, photos, family records, and identification should be packed separately from most home belongings so they can be easily accessed. The last thing you want is to need something important that’s packed away.
