Living life without our loving four-legged family members seems unimaginable. Pets are known for giving us their undying love, affection and respect, day after day after day. Yet, according to the ASPCA, there are 7.6 million companion animals entering shelters every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.
Of the dogs, approximately 35% are adopted, 31% are euthanized, and only 26% of dogs who come in as strays are returned to their owners. As far as cats, approximately 37% are adopted, 41% are euthanized, and less than 5% of cats who come in as strays are returned to their owners. These are devastating percentages that continue to grow.
How you can help
In response to these statistics, the Greater Milwaukee Area TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® locations are teaming up to participate in the nationwide TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® donation drive called Movers for Mutts. From Sept. 19 through Oct. 21, Our locations in Milwaukee, Racine, and Waukesha will partner with local shelters and businesses to collect pet care essentials to donate to needy shelters.
Donated items will be delivered to HAWS of Waukesha(opens in a new window) and Woof Gang Rescue(opens in a new window) of Racine. These are both volunteer-based, no-kill shelters that rely on donations to succeed at their efforts. Both of which are highly respected in the community! All donated items go directly to help these shelters fulfill their missions. Our campaign is directed at “Mutts” but we are collecting for all of our animal friends in need. Both shelters can use items like collars, treats, adult and puppy dog food, heating pads with auto shut-off leashes, Kong toys, and pill pockets.
