If you’re thinking of completing a long-distance move in the near future, then TWO MEN AND A TRUCK should be your first call, as we specialize in long-distance relocation!

Long distance moving brings additional challenges to the already difficult task of home moving, as you’re not just heading down the street or across town to a new home – you’re often heading from one end of the state to another or to a new region of the country. With so much distance between destinations, there is some extra planning and preparation needed to ensure a smooth move.

For those who have never completed a long-distance move, your head is probably swirling with plenty of questions about what needs to be done, what you need to plan for, and what deadlines you need to meet to ensure you’re where you need to be when you need to be there.

Well, we’ve been doing this for a minute, and we thought we’d answer some of the most frequently asked questions about long distance moving below!

How much does it cost to complete a long-distance move?

Each long-distance move is different, and there are multiple factors that go into the final pricing of your long-distance move. A few of these are covered in the next FAQ.

What factors impact the cost of a long-distance move?

The two most important factors in determining the cost of a long-distance move are the distance traveled to your new home and the amount of belongings being transported. Other factors could include the amount of movers and trucks needed and the state you are moving to and from.

How far in advance should I book my long-distance move?

We recommend customers book their moves – at the very minimum – one month before their desired moving date. This ensures you’re able to get on our schedule and that we’ll have availability and a moving team ready to go when you want to move.

When should I start packing for a long-distance move?

It’s best to start the process of packing for your long-distance move the minute you commit to moving. Packing is a long and tedious process, and it’s something you don’t want to try and do all at once.

Start by going room-by-room and tackling the process in chunks, which will allow you to gradually work toward moving day and keep everything manageable.

How do I stay organized with a long-distance move?

There are many ways to stay organized during a long-distance move, but one of our favorites is by using a long-distance moving checklist. This helps you visualize all important dates, deadlines, and tasks that need to be completed before movers arrive at your door. You can find more information about checklists here(opens in a new window).

What should I keep with me during a long-distance move?

During any move, we recommend customers keep all important documents, forms of identification, credit cards, and any important medications with them in a separate bag from their packed belongings. If it’s something you might need in transit, then you’ll want to keep it with you. It’s also never a bad idea to have snacks and drinks if you’re planning to drive!
