The calendar has officially turned to October, the weather is starting to change, Halloween is just around the corner, and that means one thing: it’s boxtume season!
What are “boxtumes”? They’re a fun, DIY craft idea we created here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK as a way to make quick, easy costume ideas for the Halloween season out of old moving boxes and supplies around the house. These are a fun way to get crafty and have a little fun when making a costume for the spooky season, and we have three new ideas for Halloween 2026!
First up on the 2026 boxtume tutorial list? A fidget spinner!
What you’ll need:
- 2–3 medium or large cardboard boxes
- Pencil
- Box cutter or craft knife (adult use recommended)
- 2 different colors of duct tape
- Heavy-duty glue
- 4 frisbees or construction paper
- Scissors
- Heavy-duty string
- Ruler or measuring tape (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Create the Fidget Spinner Pieces
Take a piece of cardboard and use a pencil to trace three identical fidget spinner arms. Then, trace a medium-sized circle on the cardboard for the center of the spinner.
Step 2: Cut Out the Pieces
Using a box cutter, carefully cut out the three fidget spinner arms and the center circle.
Step 3: Add the Duct Tape
Choose two different colors of duct tape. Cover all three fidget spinner arms with one color and cover the center circle with the other color.
Step 4: Assemble the Spinner
Use heavy-duty glue to attach the three arms evenly around the center circle. Make sure the arms are spaced evenly. Allow the glue to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 5: Add the Spinner Details
Once the glue has dried use four small frisbees or cut four circles from construction paper. Glue one circle to the center of each of the three arms and one circle to the center of the spinner.
Step 6: Create the Straps
Cut a piece of heavy-duty string long enough to fit comfortably around the neck. Position the strings on the back of the costume to create a necklace like effect. Use heavy-duty glue to secure the strings firmly to the cardboard.
Step 7: Let It Dry
Allow all glue to dry completely before wearing the costume. Once everything is secure, your DIY Fidget Spinner costume is ready to go!
