How to Pack Fragile Items Like a Pro: Expert Tips for a Safe Move

Moving fragile items can be stressful, but the right packing techniques can help protect your belongings from damage. Whether you're packing dishes, a television, mirrors, or glassware, following a few simple rules can make moving day much easier.

How To Pack Dishes for Moving

Wrap each dish individually with packing paper and place plates vertically rather than flat inside a sturdy box. Add cushioning to the bottom, sides, and top of the box, and fill any empty spaces so the dishes can't shift during transportation.

For glasses and delicate stemware, consider using a cell box with individual compartments for added protection.

How to pack a Tv

If you still have the original television box, use it whenever possible. Otherwise, use a properly sized TV box and protect the screen with appropriate packing material.

Remove the TV stand when possible and keep screws, remotes, and cables together in a labeled bag. When transporting the TV, keep it upright and securely positioned to help prevent damage.

How to pack mirrors and glass

Mirrors, framed artwork, and glass tabletops need extra protection. Cover the glass with packing paper and bubble wrap, then place the item in a properly sized specialty box.

For larger or especially delicate mirrors and glass pieces, professional packing may be the safest option.

Don't leave emply space in boxes

Movement inside a box is one of the biggest risks to fragile belongings. Fill empty spaces with crumpled packing paper or other cushioning materials.

Before sealing the box, gently move it. If you hear anything shifting, add more padding.

Clearly label fragile boxes

Mark boxes containing delicate belongings with "FRAGILE – HANDLE WITH CARE." It's also helpful to write what's inside and which room it belongs in.

For example:

  • KITCHEN – GLASSWARE
  • LIVING ROOM – MIRROR
  • BEDROOM – PICTURE FRAMES

Clear labeling helps everyone know which boxes require extra care.
