Each box needs support
Before you place any items into your boxes, ensure that you have bubble wrap or ruffled-up packing paper at the bottom of your box. This provides support and cushion for the items to be packed. Place a layer of cushion: At the beginning, at the end, and as a filler between items. If you had a box filled with fragile personal memorabilia, you'd want to ensure the contents are as protected as possible if the box were to fall. Cushioning is peace of mind for your pack. Knowing How to Use Boxes
Each box serves a purpose. Moving them can be a lot harder if you throw things into each box blindly. Small boxes are best for slightly heavier items (like books, small kitchen appliances, or electronics) or for belongings that need more care (glassware, utensils, decor, etc). Medium boxes are useful for kitchen items (pots and pans, slightly larger appliances) but can also be used for linens, clothing, toys, and slightly larger electronics. Large boxes are perfect for pillows, bedding, clothing, large kitchen appliances, lamps, and stuff that wouldn't otherwise fit into small or medium boxes.
Pack like items together to make tracking easier and to ensure big items don't break smaller ones. It's crucial to pack each item with a form of cushion, and to fill spaces with cushion to keep items from moving during transport. It's also important to stack heavier boxes on the bottom and get lighter with each box stacked. Now, placing a large light box on top of a heavy small box is silly. Here, you'd want to stack all the heavy smalls with each other, and the lighter boxes with their own group.
Labeling Like a Pro
Professional packers label each box the same. First, write down who the items belong to. This is in case boxes get lost or stolen. Secondly, write down the room in which the box was packed in. This will help you know where to place the box when you get to the unload. Third, write down the contents inside the box. This will help remember where items were packed, and allow for easy access when trying to retrieve them. Next, any special messages. "Fragile items", "Do Not Stack", and "Important Items" will help you identify necessary items as fast as possible.
