Tips to Prepare for Move Day

Got a move coming up, and don't know where to start? Lets avoid any last-minute decisions, damages, and a stressful day. Utilize these tips to make sure your relocation is smooth and efficient, so you can kick your feet up and settle in!

Create a Game Plan

To start off, write down important information. To effectively communicate with your movers, prepare a list of items in which you plan to move (furniture, specialty items, and boxes). This will give an idea as to how big of a vehicle you'd need to transport everything from load to unload. Don't forget about pictures and any attic/basement items. Figure out if you plan to pack your belongings (clothes, dishes, decor), or if you plan to have professionals come in to do that for you! Setting a gameplan keeps your move linear, meaning you aren't scrambling back and forth to get things done.

Pack Like a Pro

Packing can be tedious, but it doesn't have to be! Separating like-items into their own box to avoid confusion when unpacking goes a long way. Using packing paper? Slightly crumble a couple sheets, and use them as cushion on the bottom of the box to avoid setting items on it's firm surface. Utilize extra sheets for anything fragile. Remember, label each box with the contents, room, and special instructions. This saves time and energy when unboxing!

Ask your Movers Questions

There are plenty of options when considering movers. Don't be afraid to ask them questions! If possible, do research into them. Reviews are a key factor when determining who is built for your move, and who is in it for a couple bucks. Ensure they are license and insured. How much experience do they have, and are they trustworthy? Asking questions such as "How do you handle X?"  and "Do you provide Y?" will bring clarity to any questions you may have regarding your move, and should help determining if they are qualified for the job.

To recap, create a gameplan as early as possible. Write down key information that would be important for you and movers to remember. This helps you stay organized throughout the process and avoids a stressful move. Communicate these details with your movers, and ask tough questions to determine if they are fit for the job. Do your research into potential help, and don't sacrifice quality for cheap help. Pack like a pro, label correctly to save time and  energy moving things back and forth.
