We have a king mattress that is rather heavy and extremely expensive. My expectation is that your company moves heavy and expensive furniture everyday. I did not expect my mattress to be dropped in the snow and dirt. The moving team explained that if we let you know about the complaint, the office will then arrange for cleaners to come and detail the bed. But who knows how long that would take to arrange for cleaners and now I am left with a bed that has mud all across it. This should have never happened in the first place. The moving team should have display care and quality in their service.
The mattress was not the only moving issue. We also have a couch. The cushions were separately loaded on to the truck. When we arrived at the new location they opened the door and I watched my cushions fall out of the truck and into the dirty water below. Had they recommended packing or wrapping the cushions in some way, I would have gladly agreed, because hey... I don't move furniture for a living, they do.
Furthermore, during the check in and check out process they expressed the desire for a gratuity (cash preferred). I'm sure you can find a better way to train them on this part of the process or to get rid of it all together. Expressing this up front immediately heightened my expectations for the service being provided. Furthermore, if a tip is involved then what the heck am I paying for in the base service?? At the end of the service I still gave them a cash gratuity, but it only made me feel taken advantage of and worse about the process.
At the end in the check out process they noted the time of the first call and the approximate time they would returning to "base". They then added an unexpected additional hour to my bill at the rate of $150. The told me it was standard to charge from port to port, however I don't remember that being part of the discussion when I originally booked the service. I told your office I needed two hours of service and I was quoted $300. I don't recall ever being told I would have to pay for travel time to and from my location. With that in mind I should have found company located downtown that would not need to add an additional hour of travel time. At this point in time I have yet to be charged for the additional $150, but I still find it concerning that I would be expected to pay full rate for time before and after my scheduled time.
At the end of the day I was very disappointed in my first experience with a moving service and will not recommend it to my friends and family. When originally quoted the $300 for two ours of moving and a truck I thought it would be a no brainer and wondered why I had never done this in the past. I was looking forward to avoiding the hassle of rounding up my friends and renting a truck. However, at the end of the day I was out $470 (additional travel time and gratuity) for two hours of service. I can easily spend less than that and have displayed more care for the potential damage that could take place.
